
The dream of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley to host the 2016 summer Olympics in Chicago got a boost yesterday from one of Chicago's most prominent members: President Barack Obama. The President hosted a campaign style event on the White House lawn in an attempt to promote the Chicago Olympic bid.
President Obama is back on the campaign trail, and this time it's not for health care, stimulus packages, or even his own re-election -- it's for Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
"The United States is eager to welcome the world to our shores," Obama said at a White House event featuring past Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
The International Olympic Committee meets next month in Copenhagen to decide among Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid, and Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 games.
It will take a massive marketing campaign on the part of the Chicago Olympic Committee to secure the 2016 games. There is great hope on the part of Mayor Richard M. Daley and Pat Ryan, chairman of the Chicago bid, that President Obama will make a last-minute pitch to the International Committee.
