iPhone 3G may spark secondary market

The iPhone 3G will retail for $199.
The new iPhone 3G hits stores Friday.

And while reviewers have had plenty go say - both good and bad - about the iPhone upgrade, it may really be a matter of "Do you want this new technology?" versus "Do you need this new technology?"

I particularly like this column from Glenn Fleishman, who says he's on the fence about the 3G - but notes his father's birthday is coming up and Dad wouldn't mind a hand-me-down should Glenn decide to upgrade.

Fleishman also predicts a "hefty" secondary market in the 2G phones; AT&T has said anyone with a 2G model can sign up for a current 2G contract.

Did you know?: AT&T has announced it will activate the new iPhone 3G in the store for buyers. The company also said it would open all its retail stores at 8 a.m. local time Friday in expectation of strong demand for the 3G.
