Scientists are trying to build an electronic version
of the hippocampus part of the brain. (Google)
That was the premise behind The $6 Million Man, which led to the Bionic Woman, and in the years since those shows were popular, more and more parts of the human body have become replaceable.
In this article, New Scientist explores whether we have the technology to build a bionic human.
Suffice to say, there is some amazing technology in use today, though it's usually not the stuff of mainstream reporting.
Ever hear of the hippocampus? I hadn't. But I have now. It's a section of the brain involved in spatial and short-term memory.
And researchers are working on an electronic version that can mimic the real one.
