GPS in the rental car a cool toy

An in-car navigation system could be worthwhile,
especially if you're in unfamiliar territory. (eHow.com)

Just returned from a vacation to Indiana, and the rental car company gave me an upgrade to a nice ride with a GPS system.

It's not something I would have sprung for on this particular trip (was back in Indiana, where I grew up, so I knew my way around), but since the rental car manager said he'd give it gratis (they apparently couldn't find the car we were supposed to get), I took advantage.

And it was a cool toy. OK, the voice commands were a bit annoying at times - and it occasionally said to take a route that I knew wasn't the best one - but it's a useful device to have and I could definitely see springing for it when in unfamiliar territory.

Since this was a rental car navigation system, it's not on this list of GPS systems. But check out those reviews, and also learn more here.
