POSTED May 7, 9:49 AM
It seems the ability to connect to the Internet from anywhere at anytime has grown exponentially over the past few years, and it could take another giant leap soon.

A high-powered group of telecom and technology companies today announced their plan for a nationwide wireless data network.

The partners include Clearwire, Sprint Nextel, Google, Comcast, Intel and Time Warner. That group has said the deal is valued at $14.5 billion, with $3.2 billion coming from others involved in the venture.

The network is expected to provide the next generation of high-speed Internet access for cell-phone users. The launch date hasn't been determined, and neither has the price.

Overland Park, Kan.-based Sprint Nextel will be the majority owner with a 51 percent stake.
