If The Shoe Fits, Find WiFi - Or Climb Stairs At Your Peril

You might ask why anyone would want shoes with WiFi detection capability. Of course, if someone goes to the trouble of actually making those shoes, why not?

Designer MSTRPLN and Ubiq have joined to produce black Nike Dunks with WiFi detection. They call the shoes "A Step in the Right Direction." We call it cool, if not exactly practical. You can learn all about them here.

In any event, these sneakers would allow you to go for a jog - well, maybe just a walk - and find a WiFi hot spot. Probably don't want to jog with your laptop.

Speaking of practicality, that brings us to another pair of shoes that are seemingly anything but practical. Still, they do take advantage of technology, even if in a slightly off-kilter way (and if you try to walk in these shoes, you might find yourself off-kilter).

Boots With Stair Counter

This pair of high-heel ankle boots comes complete with a pedometer (some call it a stair counter) screwed into the shoe. The boots, from Costume National (an Italian group), are supposed to hit the market in September as part of the company's fall/winter accessory line.

Obviously, these are not the kind of stair climbers you can find at the gym (well, most gyms, anyway).  And we can't imagine taking these for a jog. But we're sure someone out there will be buying them.

After all, talk about a fashion statement. These would surely spark conversation.
