The folks over at HD Guru say prices could be cut by $300 on some models.
This comes on the heels of price cuts last month as retailers tried to reduce large inventories of big-screen sets, as the economic downturn - the high cost of gas, groceries, and other necessities - put purchasing HD sets on the backburner for many. That was occurring even as government economic stimulus checks were being cashed and consumers were being urged to spend the money on big-ticket items.
The Guru obtained the new prices for Samsung LCD sets, and said "industry sources" are reporting new pricing on models from Sony, Panasonic and Mitsubishi as well.
There has been much debate about when - and by how much - manufacturers will drop prices as the February 2009 transition to all-digital television looms.
Look for retailers to continue to offer more specials, pegged not only to Labor Day but also the start of football season - a key marketing tool for those dealing in big-screen HDTVs.
