Coal to liquids: Rentech produces synthetic fuel

August 8, 7:22 AM
by Darrell Proctor, Business Examiner

Coal is an abundant energy resource, but many
environmentalists consider it a dirty four-letter word.
Rentech Inc. has announced the successful production of synthetic fuel at its plant in Commerce City, Colo.

The Air Transport Association of America, the major trade group for U.S. airlines, is particularly interested in CTL research as it tries to find alternative fuels to lower its costs.

Go here to read Rentech's press release on its project, including comments from Jim May, president and CEO of the ATA.

For more info: The World Coal Institute has information about how coal can be converted into other fuels, as does FutureCoalFuels.org.
