Intel's updated vPro adds IT upgrades

July 18, 9:01 AM
by Darrell Proctor, Business Examiner

Intel's updates to vPro have been eagerly awaited.
Corporate IT departments were waiting for Intel to release its Centrino 2 platform for notebooks, and it happened this week.

The updates and upgrades are detailed in this eWeek.com article.

Here's a key passage: "With the notion that laptops need to be as secure as desktops, Intel made a number of incremental improvements to the technologies that are now included with the Centrino 2 vPro platform. While none of the improvements made headlines during the July 14 launch, the vPro technologies are important to IT departments looking to bring a sense of order to a corporate client fleet that is increasingly becoming mobile."

In other words, because so many workers now use a laptop as their primary computer, those laptops need to be every bit as secure as a company's desktop PCs.
