Expensive gear needs high-tech protection when traveling

Getting your expensive outdoors gear from Point A to Point B in one piece is not as easy as it once was.

And that's without taking into account the fees some airlines charge for checked bags these days.

Technology is helping, though, with new high-tech carrying cases designed to withstand whatever baggage handlers and the cargo hold can throw at them.

Sportube offers several solutions. The Avon, Colo.-based company has hard shell skiing, snowboarding and fishing cases, all outfitted with wheels for more ease in handling. They also can fit neatly into most vehicle-top luggage racks.

They can be shipped via the Postal Service, FedEx and UPS.
