The Gcubik could eventually create a mini-theater
on top of your desk. (Engadget)

Japanese researchers are developing a a 3-D cube (called "Gcubik") that you could hold in your hand. The cube would contain an image that could be viewed from three sides, and the image would differ based on the viewing angle.

The researchers hope to extend the technology to moving images, and even add sound.

Imagine that - a mini-theater, in the palm of your hand or on top of your desk.
