Portabiliity has become the gold standard among notebook computers, with manufacturers trying to outdo each other when it comes to how thin and how "weightless" they can make their products.
Toshiba this week unveiled its Portégé R500-S5007V. The notebook weighs 2.4 pounds (1.08 kilograms). That's less than the Apple Macbook Air (3 pounds) and Lenovo's Thinkpad X300 (listed at 2.93 pounds).
And the Toshiba is just 0.77 inches at its thinnest point.
Toshiba also says the model will come with a 128G solid-state drive (replacing the hard drive) - the first of its kind. Other manufacturers have been using two 64G drives in their machines.
It won't come cheap - Toshiba said it will list at $2,999 when it becomes available in the third quarter of this year.
