General Dynamics buys Jet Aviation for $2.25 billion

The small jet business is booming. (Jet Aviation)

The aviation industry is suffering on some fronts (note Continental's announcement of pilot furloughs today), but on others it's thriving.

Some proof of that came today with General Dynamics' announcement that it's buying Switzerland-based Jet Aviation for $2.25 billion.

General Dynamics CEO Nicholas Chabraja said Jet's current management would remain, and would support the company's growth in the hardware end of the business jet industry.

That industry has been propped up by the troubles among major airlines, as company's move to realize cost savings by utilizing fleets of business jets for travel.
