Pushing forward any new technology project can be easier with Google on your side.

That's why General Electric joined with the Internet behemoth in a joint effort to further consumer energy options and help America's electricity infrastructure.

The companies made the announcement Wednesday during a meeting at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.

Part of the joint initiative involves developing a "smart" electrical grid. Another section involves Googles's RechargeIT initiative, launched last year to promote development of hybrid electric vehicles.

Former Vice President Al Gore even weighed in during the meeting, lending his support to the pairing.
