Dell's use of 'cloud computing' was pie in the sky.

Dell sought to trademark "cloud computing." The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said "not so fast."

Here's the notice of the cancellation of the first notice (the notice of allowance), courtesy of Sam Johnston's blog.

Why "cloud computing?" It's a buzz term that usually refers to the Internet. Dell no doubt sought to capitalize on that, in much the same way the Colorado Rockies last year said they would trademark "Rocktober" (and we see where that's gotten them this season).
