Lawrence Lessig spoke at a conference in California.

A law professor from Stanford University says he's been told the U.S. government already has created a Patriot Act for the Internet, and is just waiting for an event to trigger its introduction.

Lawrence Lessig made the comments during a panel discussion in late July at Fortune's Brainstorm Tech in Half Moon Bay, Calif. You can read more about Lessig's appearance here and here.

Lessig founded Stanford Law School's Center for Internet and Society. He's a founding member of Creative Commons and is on the board of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Software Freedom Law Center.
