Hurricane trackers have several tools at their disposal these days when it comes to tracking storms.
The technology to predict a storm's projected path - and its intensity - has become big business, as have the dozens of Web sites dedicated to providing up-to-the-minute forecasts and maps.
Here's a site I found today that provides plenty of information. Its StormTrack system received information from the National Weather Service.
The National Hurricane Center site provides detailed satellite photos, forecasts and other information to help residents - and business owners - get a handle on what they need to be doing to prepare for a storm.
This post from early July - when Hurricane Bertha threatened - notes how the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration now launches unmanned drones into storms. Those planes are able to fly lower than manned hurricane hunter planes and can "beam" back information from nearer the ocean's surface, resulting in more accurate forecasts.
