The Plexidor Electronic Pet Door
functions like a garage door.

Rover, Fido and Spike have a new way to come and go as they please.

The Plexidor Electronic Pet Door uses RFID technology for a high-tech update of the doggy door.

Think of it more as a garage door for your pet, but instead of a button to push, an RFID chip attached to the animal's collar signals the door to open whenever the pet gets close. The door slides open, then it slides shuts after the animal passes through (there's a safety mechanism to make sure the animal doesn't get caught in the door).

It's marketed as safer than a standard doggy door since there's less chance of a raccoon (or a human intruder) winding up in your kitchen.

The price of the door depends on its size; we found it here at $700 to $800. It's also available at Amazon.com .

And more information is available here.
