Today the Motorola Droid drops at Verizon Wireless stores everywhere. If you have not heard of the Droid yet then you need to check out this new "smart phone" device. Although many claim it will not overshadow the almighty iPhone, a lot of people do feel that it will come close and has Verizon's network to back it up. The new Droid phone offers many features that are similar to the iPhone and some new features the iPhone doesn't have such as the physical slide out keyboard and it's camera with a flash.

Droid runs on the Android platform which many will argue provides a better option for providing apps on your mobile device versus Apple's app development requirements. The Android platform provides developers with more of an open source to work with and does not restrict them in the many areas Apple does with it's iPhone.

What does this mean for Home Technology you ask? Well with all of the many options you have today with iPhone apps such as remote controls, home automation integration and many other apps, I believe that by having more flexibility we will see an even broader use of apps for the home.

Check out Droids new commercial which feels like a scene out of the next action movie of the year!
