Police in Jefferson City believed a possible hostage situation was taking place at a building near the governor’s mansion, it has turned out to be a false alarm.

Jefferson City Police could not locate a gunman after an extensive search of the building, located just 2 blocks from the mansion.

According to the St. Louis Dispatch, the report of a hostage situation is believed to have originated with an employee who thought she heard “hostage” over the building’s intercom system. Shortly after the initial report, the building was locked down and employees were instructed to remain in their offices.

It is not known if police have questioned the woman who started the hostage episode. Next
