For those of us alive in the 1970’s, we were entertained by some great bands and music. I’m not talking about the Disco music, though you know some of you liked that stuff. I’m referring to those Rock-N-Roll bands that dominated the airwaves and album sales. Yep, it was albums and 8 track tapes in the 70’s, and I still own a collection of albums today.
Great Bands from the 1970’s: (Part 1)
KISS- Easily my favorite 70’s band, I was a member of the KISS Army. These guys wore makeup and were breathing fire and blowing up the stage with their rock god status. Parents were not happy with this band and tried to make them out to be devil worshipers, but then again, our grand-parents said that Elvis was the devil! KISS is still around, check them out here.
Queen- Freddie Mercury will never be topped in male vocals. Queen’s music brought a combination of rock and drama with songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody". I still believe it is the best rock song ever, written and performed by the greatest rock band ever.
Van Halen- The only great Van Halen, is the David Lee Roth Van Halen. They were on top of the world in the 70’s and 80’s. Their self-titled album came out in 1978 and included “Runnin’ with the Devil”, “You Really Got Me”, “Jamie’s Cryin’” and “Ice Cream Man”. It is still one of my favorite albums of all time.
Ted Nugent-Today he is known for being an outspoken advocate for the right to “bear arms.” Back in the 70’s he was actually baring his arms, his chest and his soul. Cat Scratch Fever was huge, check out Nugent performing in this 1978 video here.
AC/DC- The Young brothers, Malcolm and Angus were born in Scotland, but rocked in the USA. The albums High Voltage and Highway to Hell started AC/DC on their path of becoming a legendary rock band. They have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide and you can still check them out here.
Part 2 will be coming soon, with the other 5 bands that made 70's rock music what it was!
