Remember when Generation X was referred to as lazy slackers? When our parents and grandparents wondered what on earth was wrong with our useless generation? I think they dismissed are worth a little too soon. Generation X is now all grown up, and I think we have done alright for ourselves.
The so-called “slackers” are now moms and dads, with good jobs; we are also single, fiercely independent women and career driven men. Generation X is concerned about the environment, the economy, our present and our future. Yes, the generation that no one thought cared about the future when we were teens, care very deeply now.
I look forward to writing about Generation X, who we were then and who we are now. I plan on sparring with some Gen Y folks. I find myself saying things about them that my parents said about my generation. It all comes around eventually I guess. As the Dallas Generation X Examiner, I also intend to have conversations with baby boomers, the generation that still believes they were the special ones. I guess we all think our specific generation is special, I know I believe that to be true of Gen X.
“Each generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.”
George Orwell
