In a move that hopes to measure student ability more accurately, SUNY Potsdam has joined with hundreds of other schools across the country to make SAT and ACT scores optional in the admissions process.
In a press release from the university, SUNY will weigh less heavily on GPA and testing scores and look more closely at course rigor, resumes, interviews, essays and recommendations. The change should take place for students entering in the 2010-2011 acedemic year.
In the press release, the school announces it will be a member of 750 schools, including Hamilton College and St. Lawerence University, that have implemented the policy. However, SUNY Potsdam is the first SUNY school to move to such a plan.
