Yes, college is back in session.

Now Country Now online reports thats in an effort to control the returning college population, the Potsdam Village Police Department will beef up bicycle, foot and road patrols.

Now that college is back in full swing for both Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam, the Police Department is taking more precausions. Over the past weekend, they responded to 25 alcohol related incidents, resulting in 13 arrests between Friday and Saturday.

The department also dispatched the Potsdam Rescue Squad to seven incidents over the weekend, responding to intoxicated persons and six auto accidents.

NCN reports the idea for increased patrols is for law enforcement to curb the use of underage drinking, false identification, over consumption and related offenses, according to police. They will continue over the next several weeks.

Since Saturday, two motorists were arrested for drunk driving and others charged for open container and disorderly conduct.
