Actor Bruce Campbell, best known for his work in the Evil Dead films and their follow-up, Army of Darkness, has fans buzzing with rumors that he has accepted a lead role in Stan Lee's Spiderman 4 - as the villain Mysterio.
Campbell has made special cameo appearances in all three of the previously released movie adaptations of the popular comic book series. He joined the cast of Spiderman as the ring announcer at Peter Parker's public debut in his superhero costume. In Spiderman 2, Campbell denied Parker late admission to Mary Jane Watson's theatre performance in his role as "Snooty Usher". He rounded out his string of oddball characters as the Maître d’ of the restaurant where Peter planned to propose to Mary Jane in Spiderman 3.
Though director Sam Raimi has made no official statement regarding the cast, The Internet Movie Database lists Campbell as the character Mysterio (also known as Quentin Beck) for the next installment in the Spiderman films. The movie is currently in the pre-production stages and has an anticipated release of Summer, 2011.
