Dean Motter, creator of the acclaimed Mister X series, has joined forces with Dark Horse Comics to compile his breakthrough Electropolis mini-series into a single trade paperback. Electropolis is Motter's first attempt at writing the story script and creating the artwork for a project, the results of which have attracted a legion of "retro-future" fans.
This vintage-style murder mystery is set in an Art Deco inspired future, complete with skyscraper size Van De Graff generators and Tesla coils. The protagonist, Menlo Park, is a robot detective who investigates the mysterious suicide of his partner. His investigation eventually uncovers a complex conspiracy which ties his partner's death to an object called the Astrolabe and the origins of their very own Electra City.
Fans of Dean Motter's Mister X will delight in the 1930's science and mechanics pulp magazine style which he has continued to cultivate in Electropolis. In a March, 2009 interview with Dark Horse, Motter says with the Electropolis and Terminal City series, he has been able to refine the nature of his vision of a retro-future. Longtime comic critics at The Fourth Rail rave that Motter has created another enduring series with their review stating: “The characters are fun, the atmosphere engaging and the artwork gorgeous.”
Electropolis TPB will be released by Dark Horse Comics on November 4, 2009, and is currently available for pre-order.
