The rapidly-rising singer-songwriter celebrates the release of her highly anticipated new album with a performance the day her album drops at the Keswick on Oct. 6.
Give Up The Ghost was produced by Grammy-winner Rick Rubin and features guest appearances by major rockers of note including Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls and Benmont Tech of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The most notable, however, is that of Sir Elton John of whom Brandi has always looked up to in her songwriting, on a duet titled “Caroline”. Brandi notes in an interview with Paste Magazine who recently named her among the “Best Voices in Indie Rock”, “We were even more extreme this time about playing live on tape and really took playing live and overdubbing seriously so that we weren’t having to use Pro Tools at all throughout the recording process. This record sounds much more reckless than The Story.” The first single off the new record “Dreams” is available now for download via iTunes.
Her hugely successful second album, The Story, was first formed during the rigors of touring as Brandi began working the new songs into the band’s repertoire, road-testing and refining the material under the spotlights. The intensity and authenticity of her music brought her to the attention of Grammy-winner T Bone Burnett (Counting Crows, Roy Orbison) who came on board to produce the album. Upon its April 2007 release, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy debuted a version of the video for the single “The Story” interspersed with footage from the show. Her song “Turpentine” was featured less than a month later in a special two-hour episode of Private Practice. Other Brandi songs heard on Grey’s Anatomy include “Tragedy”, “What Can I Say”, and “Throw It All Away”. In 2008, Brandi performed her first gigs in the UK including five shows as a special guest on Newton Faulkner’s tour, made a guest performance on the BBC2 show Later…with Jools Holland and toured through Australia with Maroon 5 and OneRepublic.
