Britney Spears who's rebuilding her career after falling from grace due to alcohol
Britney Spears who's rebuilding her career after falling from grace due to alcohol

Recently we discussed coping mechanisms for first night nerves it can be tempting perhaps especially if you're starting out on the road to performance to use a little 'dutch courage.' After all what harm can a small shot or glass of beer really do?  Sometimes it's well meaning friends who offer to buy you one as they are feeling your nerves.  The best thing you may ever learn about performing is never drink before a show. The problem is that first drink will soon turn into two or three before a show to get the same feeling of calm, then before you know where you are you've crossed the line into alcoholism.  Once you feel you can't go out there and perform without a drink you are on a very slippery slope.  Far, far better to learn to work with your nerves and tell yourself however scared you feel, however big the gig you do not drink before a show.

If you need any more convincing take a look at the lives of some of the celebrities in the spotlight, Britney Spears and Keith Urban

They’ve both fallen from grace in the most public way, and you can guarantee it you do it too they’ll be plenty of press around the record the moment. Thankfully both Britney and Keith are back on an upward trend, however they probably didn’t have good friends and management who steered them away from drink and drugs at the very start of their careers. Remember the image of beautiful Britney, hairless if ever you feel just one drink won’t hurt!

If you feel you’ve already got a reliance on alcohol you can get help, if you feel you can’t help yourself there are plenty of places to get help – do it today. You’ve worked too hard on your skills to get where you are today to let it all go – remember there’s always someone snapping at your heels, who’d happily slip into your shoes and take over your slice of the limelight. Think how hard it was to get where you are today – it would be much, much harder, if not impossible to get yourself back there, let alone continue to build your profile. We’ll talk about your profile – how people see you next time. If you’ve had experiences with drink or drugs and their perils when performing you can email them to mackentyres@yahoo.co.uk
