Newly appointed sporting director for the Red Bull organization, Dietmar Beiersdorfer, is currently spending time looking at candidates to fill the position of Head Coach.
In order to start the reconstructing process of a team that had the worst record in the MLS this year, the new candidate could be named in the very near future. Beiersdorfer, former German defender will be an intrinsic figure in making the final decision.
Red Bulls managing director Erik Stover, will also have a big part in the decision making and has said that candidates not only from the US but also from Europe are being looked at. There are some obvious concerns with European candidates, who would have to learn the MLS rules and regulations, but Beiersdorfer is sure that a European can be successful in Major League Soccer.
Stover has also said that current head coach, Richie Williams is also on the short list. Williams, since taking over from Juan Carlos Osorio had an impressive 3-3-2 record to at least end the season on a high note, and give fans something to look forward to next season. If offered to Williams, he may not be so eager to accept, as it has been rumored that D.C. United have shown an interest in getting him to the capital.
Whoever ge
ts the nod to take on, arguable the toughest job in the MLS, they will certainly have to bring in some quality name players. Williams had expressed an interest in French international star Thierry Henry, currently of Barcelona, and Henry has been linked with coming to the Red Bulls after the 2010 World Cup.
I for one don’t know why a superstar such as Henry would want to leave Barcelona for the worst team in the MLS, but if the man in command can actually attract this kind of ability to NY, then I’m sure this will go a long way to filling the new 25,000 seat Red Bull Arena.
