The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention
Ralph Lauren can be considered another high profile example of philanthropy. When the former national President of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Harold P. Freeman met in 2001 the famous fashion designer,Ralph Lauren, the end result was a true benevolence of the heart. Ralph Lauren was deeply moved with Dr. Freeman's expertise and how he had made outstanding contributions in the fight against cancer among the poor and tried to bridge the gap between race, poverty and cancer.
Today, Dr. Harold Freeman is the President and Founder of The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in New York City. It is a community based center for the prevention,diagnosis and treatment of cancer. They are committed in making cancer screening and treatment available to everyone. The Center is the product of a generous gift from the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation which is also a partnership between Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and North General Hospital. It is located in East Harlem,New York where the peaceful ambiance of the place was created by Polo Ralph Lauren designers.
The Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation was created for the purpose of providing charitable donations to various philanthropic programs.
