Deepak Chopra and others have demonstrated scientifically we are not the same people we were a year ago. Physiologically our cells, our bodies are completely different year over year. He demonstrated that our bodies are basically recreated every seven years. So where does memory come from? It is in the energy fields of consciousness. Extensive research has been done and continues to prove the toxic physiological effects of negativity on the body. So what are we doing to ourselves and others by nurturing, reliving and retelling the wound stories? We are simply killing ourselves and others. This is truly a subtle and eventually a fatal practice that we as a culture have adopted.
Why is our culture micro and macro alike, so addicted to this negativity and "woundology?" Truly a case of denial of the desire to hang on to the pain. It truly is a choice for each individual to first recognize it in themselves. Take stock of how much you engage in the world of wound. Is there is a piece of you that prefers to remain somewhat unhappy? If so why?
There is a very subtle form of manipulation that occurs when discussing the wound. It is very insidious and I believe people are not conscious of how they utilizing it. The wound serves in many ways. First of all the wound serves as a self-justification to avoid the present. It serves as an "excuse." The discussion of the pain evokes an instinctual response of sympathy or empathy. It explains to you why I am the way I am, and so be gentle with me as I am a wounded person. It serves as a barrier or a shield to accountability for now.
The most amazing thing is culturally and socially we utilize the wound story of someone else as some sort of social capital in our own lives. As others intently listen to the gory details of the tragedy of another's life - we revel in the sadness and tragedy of it all. It somehow serves the ego in a conversation as you have knowledge of a worse wound than someone else can imagine. Impressive! It never ceases to amaze me the enjoyment people get out of listening to these stories and furthermore telling them. We are Addicted to it!
The wound is nurtured in different ethnic cultures, religions, that carry the wounds of ancestors - even if it was decades or centuries ago. The blame, the sadness, the power of it all. It truly is a choice individually, to pick up those stories and utilize them. The bottom line, the past has nothing to do with the present. It is a choice whether to carry those or not.
We create suffering through policies in government and economy for the wound. The television, media thrives on negative stories. The movies that glamorize death, fear, violence and destruction. Our collective conscious manifests these conditions as a means to keep the wound alive. We have solutions and yet, pawn it off on others as their responsibility.
There is a modern day self help teacher/lecturer who discussed the fact that we all receive guidance internally all the time. It is proven. Yet, she maintains, that we commit small and sometime larges acts of self-betrayal every day and throughout the day. People have an internal compass of right and wrong. Each time we betray what we know is the right thing to say or do, we are wounding ourselves and others.
We have been given pathways for centuries and yet, we deny our own capability to take those paths and live peacefully. The denial is of the desire to hang on to the pain. It truly is a choice for each individual to first recognize it in themselves. Take stock of the shadow or wound within and see how committed you are. How even after years of work, there is a piece of you that prefers to remain somewhat unhappy.
Awareness is really the key. Accountability of ourselves and those around us to stop our selves and other from the "woundology" that will be a powerful beginning. Then and only then we will have begun to realize the true gold that has been born of our experience. Living in the true essence of who we are intended to be as humans.
Perhaps we collectively can set the stage for a new cultural paradigm of what is good and glorious now! Imagine the possibilities! We have to shift from negativity junkies into flourishing in the fullness of what is now and today. There is so much to rejoice about. In contentment and happiness there is no weaponry and usually no leverage except you just might feel better about yourself and help others feel better too on many levels.
In peace...
