Yes it’s true, Steven Seagal is real cop! It turns out the actor has been a deputy sheriff with Louisianan’s Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for 20 years.
Steven Seagal the sheriff will be staring in the new A&E reality series Steven Seagal Lawman. The sure-to-be action packed show premiers Wednesday, December 2, 10/9C.
Seagal became a cop at the behest of former Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee. The actor impressed Lee by training some of the Parish’s officers in small arms and martial arts while on location in Louisiana for a movie shoot.
Seagal had already earned a certificate for completing the police academy in Los Angeles, so Lee swore him in as a full-fledged deputy.
“I’ve decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it’s important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in the New Orleans area to see the passion, commitment and fine police work that comes from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in this post-Katrina environment,” said Seagal.
Seagal’s movies have grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. The action star has been practicing marital arts for most of his life and is a 7th degree black belt in Aikido.
