An Iowa jury found a mother guilty of first degree murder for the Oct. 2008, death of her 2-year-old son Seth Kehoe.
Michelle Kehoe, 36, of Coralville, Iowa, slashed the throats of her two sons, killing one and permanently scarring the other.
After the brutal attack, Kehoe attempted suicide, but failed. She then tried to make it look like someone abducted the family, killed the children, and tried to kill her.
Her 7-year-old son Sean Kehoe, who survived the attack, was able to identify his mother as the assailant.
Police found Sean after he locked himself in the family van overnight after his mother had slashed him and his brother’s throat and left them for dead.
Kehoe was also charged with attempted murder of son Sean, and child endangerment causing injury.
Kehoe’s defense rested on a plea of insanity, a plea the jury didn’t buy. They convicted her after deliberating for only an hour and a half.
Kehoe faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. She will be sentenced on Dec. 15.
