William T. Hurley
(Hennepin County Sheriff's Office)

File this under “Worst parent of the year.” A Minneapolis man has been accused of beating, whipping, and burning his 10-year-old stepson.

William Tajahn Hurley, 23, was arrested after police say he admitted he "whooped" the boy and said the boy had “another beating coming,” and even threatened to beat him in front of the officers.

Police say Hurley became upset with the boy so he punched him, whipped him with an extension cord, and burned him with an iron.

The boy managed to escape and then hid in an oven to avoid further punishment. Police say that’s when Hurley turned the oven on to cook the boy out.

Minneapolis police charged Hurley with malicious punishment of a child. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $3,000 fine.

The boy was treated at a local hospital for his injuries.
