Comedian and rapper Katt Williams was arrested Sunday night and charged with burglary and criminal trespassing for breaking into a house near Atlanta and stealing valuable coins.
Maj. James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department said the break-in occurred at a home about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta, where a homeowner called the police to say Williams, 38, had broken in and taken items from the home.
Williams, who was released on bond Monday, said the arrest was a result of "a misunderstanding between me and two stupid detectives."
Police on the other hand say Williams entered the house with a crowbar and stole approximately $3,500 in jewelry and rare coins.
Williams is known for his roles in the movies "Friday after Next" and "Norbit" and for his comedy DVD, "Katt Williams: Pimpadelic," which was a top 10 selling DVD last month.
Williams was sentenced to three years' probation in late 2006 on a gun charge, and was arrested last year on gun charges in New York. Prosecutors eventually dropped the charges in the New York case.
The comedian was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation last November and he also skipped his scheduled hosting duties at the 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards and an appearance on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien."
