For the first time since her husband's death, Patrick Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi, will speak publicly about her grief at a women's conference, reports People Magazine.

Six weeks after Swayze lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at age 57, Niemi has been invited to participate in a roundtable discussion on Grief, Healing, and Resilience at the Women's Conference 2009. The Conference will be held next Tuesday, October 27th, in Long Beach, California.

In her first public presentation since Swayze's death on September 14th, Niemi (53) will join Elizabeth Edwards and Susan St. James, both of whom suffered the loss of children in accidents. The discussion will be moderated by California First Lady and Women's Conference host Maria Shriver. Just this past summer, Shriver herself lost her mother, Eunice Shriver, and her uncle, Ted Kennedy.

Swayze and Niemi met as teenagers while they were students at his mom's dance studio; subsequently, they shared one of Hollywood's most enduring romances. Over the 34 years that they were married, the couple developed "an ease" in their relationship, Swayze reported to People in 2007. They were both pilots, and they often flew together; they also shared a love of horseback riding and the outdoors. They shared a true partnership with one another.

Her brother-in-law Don told People that it was Lisa who turned out to be a "pillar of strength" during the trying last year of Swayze's life. United in their focus to overcome Swayze's cancer, and as they both desired to spend Patrick's last days in one another's company, the couple maintained a fierce determination to "keep fighting" right up until Swayze's death.

The Women's Conference 2009 will be hosted by Shriver and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and will gather more than 100 newsmakers and world opinion leaders. 25,000 women from all walks of life will gather in Long Beach to be "educated, inspired and empowered to be Architects of Change in their own lives, within their communities and around the world."

NOTE: The Women's Conference will be streamed live at 8 am PST on Oct. 27 at this link.
