Dear Dr. Swain,
A few months ago my husband’s office hired a new woman to work in his department. He is not this woman’s boss, they just work together. My husband took a liking to her immediately because she is very beautiful. Over the next few months they managed to be assigned to the same project and have been spending many nights working together. When I ask my husband about his feelings for her, he says that they are just good friends and coworkers and that nothing is going on. My gut tells me otherwise. I guess my question is this: can a man have a woman as a friend if he is attracted to her? Signed: Worried
Dear Worried, I know it is kind of old fashioned to think that men and women can’t be friends, but in my experience it is a rare case when a man can be friends with an attractive woman with out some form of complication coming into play. My feeling is that you should trust your gut and put an end to this friendship, but I’m opened to hearing what my readers think.
Here’s your chance to vote. What should the wife do?
1. She should put an end to this “friendship” right away.
2. She should mellow out, they’re just coworkers. Besides, what’s he going to do, quit his job?
3. She should not say anything, but she should keep her eyes open for any new developments in their friendship.
