Therapy in Three Minutes: Can a woman rape a man?
Dear Dr. Swain, My wife and I are having a debate that we think you can settle. I say it is impossible for a woman to rape a man. She says it is. Is it possible for a man to be raped by a woman? Thanks.
I’m sorry to tell you, but you’re wrong. It is possible for a man to be raped by a woman, and sadly it has occurred. It is important to remember that rape is a y sexual contact while there is an unwilling partner. So if there were a case when a male was unwittingly forced, either through threat or coerrcien, to engage in sexual conduct, and he was able to achieve an erection and even if he were able to ejaculate, his partner would be guilty of raping him.
Of course, rape is not limited to sexual intercourse. The insertion of objects or fingers into anyone’s orifices can constitute rape. There is a thin line between rape and sexual harassment as well, one that I personally would not want to test.
The bottom line is this: No means no. If you are engaged in any sexual or sex implying behavior and your partner says no, they mean it. Stop what you’re doing, even if you think it’s just in fun.
