Dr. Swain, Have you heard of something called a “Roman shower”? And what do you think about them?

A Roman shower, also known as emetophilia, is a paraphilia in which an individual is aroused by vomiting or observing others vomit. I once had a client who found himself turned-on by forcing his penis down the throat of his partner until his partner threw up on him. This practice got the name “Roman shower”, after the commonly-supposed, (but mistaken), belief in the frequent induction of vomiting at Roman feasts.

Emetophiles find the act of vomiting arousing; for them, the sequence of "spasm, ejaculation, relief" in vomiting is erotically charged. Other emetophiles are aroused by seeing and/or hearing others vomit. Some desire a partner who will vomit on them, while others wish to induce vomiting in a partner, or even force them to vomit. Of course, most emetophiles have more than one of these desires, in various combinations

As for what I think about Emetophilia? Most psychologists work within the following definition:  mental illness is a psychological or behavioral pattern, that is not expected as part of normal development or culture, that occurs in an individual, and causes distress, disability or social conflict. As with other fetish behaviors, including urophilia, (golden showers) and corpophilia, (scat, or the use of feces for sexual stimulation), the use of vomit, feces or urine as a sexual stimulate is not a part of the expected development of a healthy individual, and is generally seen as socially unacceptable, thus I’d say that people who engage in any of these fetishes should be considered as having a serious mental disorder.
