High school students and parents have a variety of upcoming events that will teach useful skills: Babysitting is often a high school student’s first job. It is a great way for students to earn money, especially those busy with academics, clubs, or sports that cannot fast food or other public jobs because of schedule conflicts.
The YMCA of Central Kentucky hosted a Babysitting Certification Class on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children ages 11 to 15. The purpose of this class was to introduce individuals to the role, responsibility and relationship of the babysitter to the parents and the child.
Babysitters learned how to handle emergencies, illness and upset children, and how to prevent accidents, what to expect from parents and how to feed, play with and care for children. The Beaumont Centre Family YMCA hosted the class. The fee was $65.
A First Aid Training certification class will also be at the Beaumont Centre Family YMCA on Thursday, Nov. 12, 6-10 p.m. The workshop is open to people ages 16 and older. The fee is $60.
CPR Training for the Professional Rescuer will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Beaumont Centre Family YMCA. The class takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to people ages 16 and older. The fee is $85. Knowing first aid and CPR are valuable life-changing skills to acquire and maintain.
High school students, parents, and siblings can stop by The Party Store on Tiverton Way to register for a Kid print ID Program provided by the Lexington Division of Police on Saturday, Nov. 14. 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Parents receive a free identification card containing the child’s photo, name, height, weight, hair and eye color, date of birth and fingerprint.
This information is maintained by the Division of the Police and can be used if a child goes missing. Call 859-272-4497 for more info. Identification cards are especially helpful for children under the age of 16 and high school students who do not have a driver’s license.
