Former Virginia Tech stand out DeAngelo Hall had a pretty rough day Sunday.
Not only did his current team, the Washington Redskins, lose to his former team, the Atlanta Falcons, Hall was also booed mercilessly during pregame introductions, and then preceded to put together a sweet reel of his own personal blunders.
This reel included such low lights as being seen slamming his helmet down on the sideline, getting burned by Falcons running back Michael Turner for a touchdown, and let’s not forget the ever popular, spearheading a sideline scuffle, which included Atlanta coach Mike Smith.
The event took place when Redskin LaRon Landry was flagged for a late hit on quarterback Matt Ryan as Ryan ran out of bounds on the Atlanta sideline. While both Ryan and Landry seemed unphased by the penalty, returning to the field, Hall and several members of the Falcon’s sideline, including Coach Smith, proceeded to get into the altercation. Although no punches were thrown, there was plenty of physical contact and Hall later claimed Smith made attempted to harm him.
This is just the latest in the ex-Hokie’s problems with his former employer. Hall has always been publicly critical of Atlanta’s handling his departure from the team and might be best known for a sideline shouting match between himself and then coach Bobby Petrino.
That altercation cost Hall $100,000. It has yet to be determined what this latest instance will cost him, and while Hall was not flagged on the play, league spokesman Randall Liu has said it is under review for possible disciplinary action.
Redskin's head coach Jim Zorn, after viewing the game tape, said he didn't believe Hall did anything wrong, although Zorn mostly just seemed excited the Redskins were still letting him have access to the tapes.
As for Hall, he will file an official complaint against the Falcons staff with the league.
