Beginning Saturday, middle and high school students can receive free swine flu vaccinations at weekend clinics throughout the city, health department officials said on Tuesday.

Over the next five weekends, the city will open 29 clinics, each for one weekend only, in an effort to make the vaccine available to every school-age New Yorker. This weekend, seven will be open: two each in Queens and Brooklyn and one in each of the other boroughs.

The department has offered the vaccine in elementary schools, but elementary students may also receive the vaccine at the weekend clinics. Students must bring signed parental consent forms, which are available online or in person at the clinics.

A list of clinics is available on the city’s flu web site or by calling 311. The health department has assigned each city zip code to a particular clinic, and to prevent long lines it is asking that students use their designated clinics, though they are welcome at any of them. Students younger than 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
