On November 2nd President Obama declared November as Family Military Month. This acknowledgement of the price that military families pay comes at a time when 13 members of the military have paid the ultimate price of their lives on American soil. It also follows October, which was the deadliest month in Aghanistan for American soldiers since the war began.
President Obama stated “Though only a small percentage of our Nation's population, our troops bear the great responsibility of protecting our people. They, along with their families, serve us every day with courage and dignity. Ensuring that military families receive the respect they deserve and the support they have earned is a top priority for my Administration. "
While members of the military and their families understand the sacrifices they make, it is difficult for the average person to truly know what we give up. Entire school years come and go while soldiers are overseas, missing out on Santa, lost teeth, and first dates. Having a month dedicated to their efforts is important now more than ever with the huge losses that the military community has endured, especially over the last two months.
