Don’t let the name fool you: Grumpy’s Diner will certainly cheer you up with its great food. Located at 1001 E Mt Hope Ave on Lansing’s south side, you’ll find Grumpy’s on the corner (don't blink, you might miss it). The diner boasts as being the home of the “Mean Cuisine,” and Mean has to be slang for great food at this diner.
Grumpy’s offers a full menu: breakfast (served any time), lunch and dinner. There is plenty of variety of on the menu, ranging from standards like meat loaf to food South of the border. They even have a vegetarian menu, something that was nice to see.
For a fun, different kind of breakfast order the Big O Mess ($5.49, $6.79 with either corned beef hash or gyro meat). It is a mix-up of hash browns, broccoli, tomato, onion, mushrooms and feta cheese. It is a very tasty combination and makes for a filling meal, even without the extra meat. Don’t let the name keep you from trying the Big O Mess, it a nice change of pace from bacon and eggs (nothing against bacon and/or eggs)
Like Doctor Who’s TARDIS, Grumpy’s Diner is bigger than it looks on the outside. There are three sections to the diner, so there is plenty of room for you and the gang. One of those rooms is the banquet facility, which holds 75 to 100 people according to their website.
The next time you are on the hunt for a tasty breakfast, head to the south side and pay Grumpy’s a visit—you’ll leave Happy. You can follow Grumpy's on Twitter by following @grumpysdiner
