As in the grove of lovely aspen there is dead
wood, in our lives there are things
that need to be pruned away.
The trouble with limiting thoughts and beliefs is that they often lurk in the shadows of our minds. They run silently in the background like an operating system on a computer. Identifying these Trojan horses and removing them from your life can be tricky.
First you have to accept that you have been ruled by these false beliefs and only then can you begin the work of running an anti-virus on them. The law of attraction works whether you accept it or not. What you think about you create in your life. Limiting and false beliefs have tremendous power to create a limited life if left unchallenged.
What are limiting and false beliefs? Their voices often sound like an inner critic.
During a recent Karma Art class a student declared, "I'm not an artist. I'm not the least bit creative."
The instructor asked, "Why did you sign up for an art class if you are not creative?"
The student was surprised, clearly not expecting this question. She sat silently for a few seconds while the entire class waited for her answer. She tipped her head to one side and said, "I guess I want to be creative. I don't want to believe I'm not creative."
The instructor pressed on, "Who told you that you are not creative?"
"Me. I tell myself all the time at work that I need others to help me find solutions. Am I my own worst enemy?"
The instructor (also a life skills coach) replied, "What do you think?"
The student joined the class in a chuckle. The point had been made. Clearly for many years this student had allowed her inner critic limit her expression of creativity. She soon learned how that false belief had limited her.
For the rest of the class she squeezed paint directly onto the canvas and blended colors in silence. Not once did she ask for guidance or suggestions. She simply allowed herself the joy of creating something without judgment. When she completed her work of art, the entire class commented on its beauty and content. She beamed, a changed and freer person.
Expressing yourself creatively opens channels to that part of you that watches silently, waiting for you to clear away the clutter of the busy mind and the inner critic. Find ways to be creative. Here are some suggestions:
1. Hike and take pictures
2. Take an art class
3. Do at least one fun thing every day
4. Write a creative essay
5. Enter contests
6. Meet with a coach, mentor or counselor to manage limiting beliefs
7. Try a new recipe
8. Take something out of storage and re-purpose it, recycle it, donate it or just get rid of it.
9. Follow a new route to work or shopping area
10. Introduce yourself to all of your neighbors or other people in your environment
What suggestions do you have to break old patterns and make space for new, positive beliefs and creative expression?
Bliss & blessings to ALL,
