Maybe you think that Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are just for kids. Well, millions and millions of people and business think these, and other social media networks. are worth the time it takes to use them.

Why? Because with very little time, users can reach a global audience. In many cases these audiences are target markets. Cell phone companies are even touting easy access to the big players in the social network game.

A few facts to tantalize you:

  1. Facebook has over 200 million active members
  2. MySpace has more than 70 Million members
  3. YouTube reports over 13 BILLION viewers every month
  4. Twitter, a microblog, has more than 9 million active members
  5. and the list goes on.

Did you see Susan Boyle's video on YouTube? So did over 70 MILLION viewers. Susan Boyle is a phenomenal example of the power of social media to convey a message... in this case the rise of a perceived unlikely star.

Did you know you or your business can post videos to YouTube and then embed that video on your website? By doing so, you can promote your message and keep your customers on your site. You may also lead customers to your business via your post on YouTube.

If you have been contemplating jumping in to the social media game, here are a few questions to help you:

  1. What is your message?
  2. How will your product or service help others?
  3. What image do you want to portray? (Professional? Approachable? Casual?
  4. Have you developed a brand, logo or other marketing image that will help you?
  5. Which sites best match your goals?
  6. With whom can you crosslink?
  7. Do you have email lists of customers, clients and friends to invite into your networks?
  8. How active are you willing to be on a daily or weekly basis?
  9. How can you build your expertise and become the expert in your field?
  10. What groups can you join to expand your circles?

With some careful planning and time management, you may be able to get your message to more people with social media. Take action to create the platform you need to expand your circles. Yes, it takes time but your message in the social network circles results in free advertising.

If your message, product or service creates good karma I hope to see you on my network soon,

Bliss & blessings to All,

Caryn Colgan
