The movie Big made FAO Schwarz even bigger than it already was. Remember the scene where Tom Hanks danced on the floor piano? You can't help but think of FAO when you think of toys, especially classic ones. The holidays in the Big Apple aren't complete without a stop by this infamous store. For many, it's a privilege to visit; and to make a purchase will make a memory that lasts a lifetime. There is good news for those who don't make it up north; now FAO finds a very special place in Toys "R" Us. Toys "R" Us purchased FAO in May 2009. It will now premier FAO "boutiques" in 585 of its stores beginning November 1st, just in time for the holidays! When Toys "R" Us combines forces with such an established, exclusive brand as FAO, this is indeed a sign of the times. This is, however, good news for everyone involved, especially, for consumers.
Like their flagship store, signature FAO life-size toy soldiers will be on display at Toys "R" Us. Toys will range from $2.99 to $64.99. Two standalone stores will remain; the flagship store in New York City and in Las Vegas. Not to worry, FAO will still send out its anticipated holiday catalog and maintain their website. Both will still feature FAO's high-end toys such as FAO Schwarz 66 inch Large Penelope the Pup Plush for $299.00 and Steiff Niki Riding Pony, a plush rocking horse for $549.99.
Having FAO in their stores may help make Toys "R" Us feel a little less like a big box retailer and give the consumer the feeling of a more memorable, upscale shopping experience.
Be sure to check out Toys "R" Us stores on Leesburg Pike in Baileys Crossroad and on Kingstowne Village Parkway in Alexandria, VA to visit their new FAO boutique for exclusive toys and a little bit of Big Apple magic.
