Any plans for Veterans Day besides your honey-do list? Well if the city or county you live in doesn’t have any events to honor and thank Veterans for their service, then head out to the city of Folsom. Folsom is having their 10th annual Veterans’ Day parade. Take Hwy 50 to Folsom Blvd. Turn left and head to Blue Ravine Rd. Take a right turn and when you get to East Bidwell find a place to park. The parade starts at the Target store at Blue Ravine and East Bidwell St.
The parade starts at 9 a.m. and will head West down East Bidwell to Coloma St. Then turns right and follows around the Sutter Middle School athletic field over to Natoma St. A right turn again and up to Lions Park by the City Hall.
According to the City of Folsom Newsletter, organizers are expecting about 80 entries and 1,500 participants including marching bands, drill teams, veterans groups and scout/ youth groups.
This years theme is “Welcome home-celebrating our nations Veterans”. The parade will be held rain or shine.
If you can’t make it out to Folsom at 9 then maybe you can be in Elk Grove at 10:45 for their parade. Ok not going to be in the Elk Grove area either how about Placerville at 12:30 for the 5th annual El Dorado County Veterans Day Tribute. Maybe parades aren’t your thing. The Sacramento Youth Symphony is having a Veterans Day Concert at 3p.m. at Hiram Johnson High School.
What ever your schedule or where ever you find yourself on this Wednesday the 11th I hope you are able to in some way to say “Thank you” to a Veteran and their family for the sacrifices they have made on our behalf.
Thank you.
