Gather your whole family for a day at Rural Hill in Huntersville to watch 100 Border Collies compete in the annual sheep dog trials. The competition will take place on November 7-8 at Rural Hill Farm from 8am-5pm daily. In addition to the sheep dog trials, your family can enjoy a hayride, a mini corn maize, and bounce house inflatables for the kids. Bring your old Halloween pumpkin along for the Punkin Chunkin station. Fling your pumpkin from from a scale model of an 11th century trebuchet.
According to ruralhill.net, the sheep dog competition is based on daily tasks that the dog is asked to do on the farm. Points are allotted for each phase of the work and the team of dog and handler who can do the work with the most precision and in the time allotted will win the most points. The tasks they are asked to perform are the basic skills needed to manage livestock.
In addition to the competition, there will be a dog sport demo field presented by the Greater Charlotte Sheltie club. Demonstrations include agility, tracking, weight pulling, frisbee, flyball, and search and rescue demonstrations. The day will be filled with exciting activities for the whole family.
Tickets can be purchases at the gate and cost $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12 and free for 4 and under. There will be baked good and food vendors at the event. Historic Rural Hill is located at 4431 Neck Road in Huntersville.
