Would it be beneficial to provide an alternative term for same-sex couples to gain marriage rights?
Recently same-sex marriage has been a flaming topic in numerous states! Still Arizona remains to be firm in preserving the term “traditional marriage.” With the passage of Proposition 102, a bill to place in the Arizona Constitution that marriage will remain between one man and one woman, many equality organizations in the valley are looking to bringing same-sex marriage legislation to the 2010 session. If same-sex marriage were to pass in the State of Arizona, the Defense of Marriage Act would not allow such to be recognized on a federal level. Same-sex marriage is a very emotional topic for both parties.
Many disagree with same-sex marriage as factors of religion, preservation of traditional marriage, and kids play a major role in the debate on the opposition side. Many same-sex couples are loving parents to their kids just as equivalent as any other “normal” parent would be.
As same-sex couples continue to fight for some of the most basic rights, would it be essential in providing the same rights of marriage, under an alternative name? Equality for all Americans is very crucial and according to the United States Declaration of Independence we are guaranteed “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Same-sex couples are seeking these marriage equality rights that their heterosexual peers already are guaranteed. Do you know someone that is gay, would you take their rights away?
